An ex-cop who put the job on hold to become a politician has been accused of beating his influencer girlfriend and hitting her head against a wall until she passed out.
Carlos Alberto da Cunha is accused of attacking his girlfriend in the Aparecida neighbourhood in Santos, in the Brazillian state of Sao Paulo on Saturday, 14th October.
Nutritionist Betina Raisa Grusiecki Marques, 28, who has nearly 80,000 Instagram followers, filed a police report against Da Cuhna for bodily harm, threats, insults and domestic violence.
Influencer Betina, who told police she had been in a relationship with Da Cuhna for three years, said that on the night of the incident, they started an argument with her partner after drinking alcohol.
She added that Da Cuhna started calling her ‘trash’ and a ‘whore’ before attacking her.
At one point, she said he grabbed her neck and hit her head against the wall before she fell unconscious.
Betina said that when she woke up, she saw him coming towards her and, to defend herself, threw a hairdryer at him.
He then reportedly hit her head against the wall again and told her: “I’m going to shoot your head with bullets, I’m going to kill you and I’m going to kill your mother.”
He then reportedly broke her glasses and destroyed her clothes with chlorine.
Da Cunha was elected federal deputy for Sao Paulo in 2022.
Da Cunha denied the accusations in his testimony adding that he “vehemently denies that he attacked his partner”.
He said that he was “willing to compensate for any material damage caused, in relation to Betina’s clothing items”.
He added: “There was an argument during the celebration of his birthday, but at no point did any type of physical violence occur on his part.”
According to them, the facts “will be proven during the investigation”.
