This is the moment a drink-driver smashes into the back of a 15-year-old boy riding pillion on a taxi bike being driven by a 50-year-old man and sends them flying onto a lorry trailer in front of them.
Phillipe Lemes, 15, and the motorbike taxi driver, Audenor Ferreira Lobato, 50, were rushed to hospital after the crash.
The duo, wearing helmets, were riding a bike behind a slowly moving lorry, which unexpectedly slowed to a stop on Avenida Antonio Sanches Fernandes road in Caldas Novas, Brazil where the incident took place on Friday, 20th October.
The 45-year-old, who had reportedly been drinking before driving a white Mitsubishi Pajero car, collided with them from behind, hurling them onto the lorry.
Lemes was subsequently transported to the city’s Emergency Care Unit (UPA), where it was determined that he had sustained a fractured vertebra in his spine.
Following treatment and his release, he was taken home to continue his recovery.
According to the boy’s parents, the accident happened while he was en route to the city’s anniversary parade at the State College of the Military Police of Caldas Novas Nivo das Neves.
They filed a police report on his release yesterday, 23rd October.
The motorbike driver was found to have sustained a fractured hip and was taken to Goias State Emergency Hospital (Hugo) in Goiania.
He is currently reported to be in stable condition and awaiting a specialist medical assessment to determine whether surgery is necessary.
The military police have apprehended the 45-year-old car driver, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, on charges of drink-driving and causing bodily harm.
