A young couple and their baby who was only a month old have been shot dead in an attack on the street as they were climbing into their car.
The pair were suddenly confronted by gunmen who shot dead Brendo Fernando Macedo, 26, as well as his girlfriend who was the child’s mother, Nathaly Cristine Garcia, 22, and their baby Aylla Macedo who was just 45 days old in the horrific killing in the Odwaldo Bueno housing complex in Maringa, northwest of the Brazilian state of Parana on 2nd August.
Little Aylla was killed instantly after she was shot in the head, and Brendo, who was apparently the target of the killing, died later in hospital.
Nathaly was the last to die 10 hours later on the operating table as surgeons fought to save her life.
Police from the Homicide and Person Protection Division (DHPP) confirmed they were investigating the incident in which the man was shot three times in the chest, and his wife was shot in the abdomen by the attacker then fled in a white Fiat Uno.
They said that as a result of investigations a teenager had been arrested and was being questioned by the DHPP in Maringa although he denies any involvement.
Police said they believed the father was the target because he had been involved in police investigations previously for carrying a gun and drug trafficking, although had not been convicted at the time of the shooting.
It was also believed that he was involved in another killing in the same area.
