Churchgoers were shocked when a night service was interrupted by a bloodied man who walked in with a stab wound on his neck seeking help and mercy.
CCTV footage shows the moment the 32-year-old man, whose name was not revealed, staggers into the ‘Assembly of God’ church in Domingos Martins, in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo, at around 8:00pm on 20th August.
Attendees seem horrified as he stumbles along the corridor among the crowded benches while pressing on his neck with his hand and bleeding down to his toes.
As he reaches the altar, he collapses on the floor next to the stunned musicians.
Those present rise from their pews and rush to call for help.
The man was reportedly conscious and told them he was an addict and got injured in a fight over drugs.
He reportedly asked for help and mercy.
Adriano Farias, owner of a local bar, claimed the victim first came to his business and asked for help there.
He told local media: “I was frying some snacks, and a bleeding man entered.
“I immediately called for emergency services. While I was explaining the situation, he left.
“It was a scare, the first time something like this has happened. I had never witnessed something like this before.”
Paramedics later arrived at the church and took him away in an ambulance, local media reported.
Some eyewitnesses claimed the man stabbed a woman before he himself received a two-inch stab wound.
So far, there are no information regarding the other alleged victim.
No details were given about the 32-year-old condition but police said he is alive and was taken to the State Hospital of Urgency and Emergency, in the city of Vitoria.
The investigation is ongoing.
