Suspect Paula Caroline Ferreira Rodrigues, 29, was originally due to stand trial for the killing in 2020 with her boyfriend but was released from custody on health grounds.

Now, police in Porto Alegre have rearrested her to stand trial on her own.

Rodrigues, who was seized on 20th October, is said to have lured victim Jose Gustavo Bertuol Gargioni to a meeting in 2015.

But when he got into her car, her boyfriend Juliano Biron da Silva was hiding in the back seat.

The pair, say prosecutors, drove photographer Gargioni, then 23, to a remote spot where he was tortured mercilessly before he was shot to death 19 times.

At his trial da Silva was jailed for more than 20 years for qualified homicide and concealing a corpse.

The investigation further stated that the claims of health problems by Paula Rodrigues as a reason not to stand trial persisted, leading to the issuance of a preventive arrest warrant to force her to court.

Paula’s defence lawyers, Sofia Santos de Freitas, Robertha Machado Berte, and Jean Severo, said they will not be commentating on the allegation in advance of the case as they want to ensure jurors remain neutral despite her lover da Silva’s conviction.
