Bosses at a glass-making factory where a worker was crushed to death under tonnes of sand are being investigated by police in Argentina.
Victim Elvio Dalto, 46, was engulfed by an entire shipment of sand after a workmate accidentally released it on top of him at the Rigolleau factory in Berazategui, in the province of Buenos Aires.
Local media reported that Dalto died of asphyxiation and the police are now treating his death as wrongful homicide.
Workers staged a demonstration following his death about safety standards.
Dalto’s son Lucas Dalto took to social media on 7th December to demand action over his dad’s death.
In a post on X, he said: “I swear to you that the Rigolleau Factory is going to pay for what it did… I and the family are going to make them pay.
“I’m going to love you for life, Dad. You can rest in peace. The family and I are going to make them pay.”
Workers say falling safety standards at the factory have caused a growing number of accidents.
One worker, Victor Rodríguez, 37, was crushed to death when a 1,250-kilogramme (2755-lb) laod fell on top of him.
Argentina’s National Glassworkers Union is reportedly trying to prosecute two managers for involuntary manslaughter.
The factory specialises in making specialist glass containers for industry.
