A man who butchered his hairdresser ex with a machete has been seized by police in Brazil after claiming he killed her in self-defence.
Matheus de Jesus Rodrigues, 20, had turned up at his 32-year-old former girlfriend Vivian Maldonado’s home to talk to her, reports local media.
But the conversation quickly turned into an argument, and Rodrigues later stabbed her to death at her home in Luziania, Goias State, on 7th October, say police.
When police arrived he confessed to the killing but claimed he’d acted in self-defence when his ex attacked him with a motorbike crash helmet. When he was arrested police also found a machete and he said that he had grabbed the weapon to defend himself.
He later changed his story and claimed he’d been high on drugs when he killed her, reports local media.
At a custody hearing on 8th October, Rodrigues was denied bail, and he remains in pretrial detention.
He claimed he had fallen in love with beautiful Vivian, who was 12 years older when he was still a child. Later, when he was older, they started a relationship, he said.
But the relationship had not worked out and they were separated when he turned up at her house to discuss things with her resulting in her murder.
The investigation continues.
