A man dressed in a bizarre superhero costume was seized by police accused of trying to kill a man during a terrifying nighttime break-in.
Crank Rodrigo Rodrigues da Silva had armed himself with Batman-style batarang boomerangs, a utility belt, an iron bar and a razor-sharp knife for the attack.
For his costume, he donned what appears to be a Robin mask, Batman gauntlets and a long, flowing coat as worn by the ultra-violent Marvel hero The Punisher.
Police photos of him in costume show Rodrigues after he was seized following the home invasion in Parnaiba, in the Brazilian state of Piaui, on 2nd October, at 4:40 am.
Rodrigues is said to have broken into the home of his target, named only as MM dos S in local media, while he was sleeping.
As he battered his victim on his chest and legs with the iron bar MM dos S woke up and fought back.
Rodrigues fled but was captured a short while later, still wearing his costume, and he is now being held for suspected attempted murder.
After his arrest, Rodriques gave his name as ‘The Punisher of Parnaiba’.
Police have not explained why he attacked his victim. The investigation is ongoing.
