A top parachutist and father of three has died after jumping from a plane and hitting the ground at considerable speed during his landing approach.
Humberto Siqueira Nogueira, a 49-year-old parachutist who nailed the Brazilian Free Fly Championship title in 2015, lost his life during a jump in Boituva, in the heart of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Wednesday, 11th October.
Reports from the local fire department indicate that Humberto Siqueira Nogueira was rushed to a local hospital after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest.
He was later pronounced dead.
Eyewitness testimonies detailed in the police report revealed that the victim experienced a severe impact with the ground during the landing phase.
The Civil Police have determined that there was no equipment malfunction and have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the causes of the accident.
It was reported by police that Humberto was not equipped with a body-mounted camera at the time of the descent.
Authorities will be scrutinising footage from security cameras positioned at the National Skydiving Centre as part of their investigation.
In a 2020 interview, the parachutist stated that many individuals experience intense fear when contemplating their inaugural parachute jump, leading them to abandon the idea.
However, he highlighted that the sport had become notably safer compared to other disciplines.
His burial is set to take place today, Friday, 13th October, at the Jardim das Palmeiras cemetery, in Goiania. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
