A five-year-old boy who died after plummeting 40 feet to the ground when he fell from the window of a building while playing with his brother is to help others to love after his organs were donated.
The incident that left little Matheus Marques da Silva brain dead happened in the municipality of Aparecida de Goiania in the Brazillian state of Goias on Friday, 13th October.
Matheus was playing with his brother in their third-floor apartment while their mother was in the living room.
Matheus grabbed a toy, ran to his room and leaned on the window’s protective net designed to keep out insects, which broke, causing him to fall, according to local media.
The building manager, Adriana de Sousa, told local media: “We heard a noise, a child screaming, we started looking for where the accident was.
“Then, when the mother went to look behind the building, she found the boy lying on the floor.”
Joseany Miguel da Silva, Matheus’ mother, told local media Matheus, who would have turned six on 28th October, was a smiling and affectionate boy, adding: “He taught us that life is fleeting. He came here just passing by.”
Joseany said the boy underwent surgery but was pronounced brain dead on 16th October.
“I can’t talk about him without crying, because it hurts so much to know that he’s no longer here.
“But the love I feel is immortal.”
The boy’s family said they decided to donate his organs, adding: “Your legacy of love will live on in our hearts.”
Matheus is set to be buried today, Wednesday, 18th October.
