Police in Brazil have arrested a paedophile who raped and killed a teenager while she was walking to pick her sister up from school.
Janildo da Silva Magalhaes, 38, was apprehended after he ambushed 14-year-old Amelia Vitoria de Jesus in the city of Aparecida de Goiania, in the Brazillian state of Goiania on 30th November.
The teenager had reportedly left her home to pick up her younger sister from school, when Magalhaes threatened to stab her with a knife, and kidnapped her on his bike.
The creepy CCTV footage shows Magalhaes riding a bike with the teenager.
He then reportedly took her to an abandoned house in a forest located about six kilometres (3.7 miles) away from her home, where he raped and choked her to death.
Media revealed that he used the house to store drugs and stolen objects.
Amelia was reported missing by her family after school authorities called them saying that no one had come to pick up the little girl after classes.
Goiania Police shared surveillance footage showing the 14-year-old walking on the street before suddenly disappearing at a 10-minute walking distance from the school.
Police Chief Eduardo Rodovalho said: “In the footage, you can see when, during the journey, he forces the victim to push the bicycle towards him.
“The victim complied, but you could see that she was paralysed by fear. She couldn’t ask for help.”
After the gruesome act, the suspect reportedly wrapped Amelia’s body in a sheet and dragged it to the street. She was found by locals who instantly called the cops.
The suspect was arrested after police found his fingerprints on her body.
He is reportedly known to the police for a series of crimes including sexual assaults, theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and even manslaughter.
School director Raimunda Queiroz said they closed on Monday, 4th December, and added: “We are not going to open the school to the students, because we understand that they are all emotional about this.
“We are going to open it to the staff, but not to the students.”
The investigations continue.
